The VOCES8 Scholars Ensemble has released its debut single, Protégeme, featuring acclaimed singer songwriter Maura Nava, now available on Spotify and other digital streaming platforms.
In January 2026 the VOCES8 Scholars Ensemble travelled to the Cartagena Music Festival, Colombia to give a series of concerts including a collaboration with Maura Nava, given at the hospital heliport of Hospital Serena del Mar. It included Maura’s song Protégeme, arranged specially for a cappella by Anthony Josep.
Protégeme brings the listener to the moment Maura’s heart failed, and was rushed by ambulance to the hospital.
As she locked eyes with her mother, she understood the fear in her mother’s eyes. With everything to lose and nothing left to control, Maura asked for one thing: protection.
Today, Protégeme has become a prayer for anyone seeking protection from something greater than themselves.
A song about surrendering to the present moment, trusting what cannot be seen, and feeling small, vulnerable, human, yet still choosing faith.
Later in 2026 the Ensemble will release a full album, Songs of Doubt and Wonderment, dedicated to the music of Swedish composer Mårten Jansson on VOCES8 Records, showcasing Jansson’s distinctive and expressive choral writing and featuring the Stockholm Saxophone Ensemble and conductor Ragnar Bohlin.
