The VOCES8 Scholars Ensemble join Swedish ensemble O/Modernt for performances of Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas in Hamburg and Merano this September. Directed by violinist Hugo Ticciati, the production places Purcell’s celebrated opera within a contemporary musical landscape, bringing together Baroque repertoire with music associated with Harry Potter, Sting and Muse. The VOCES8 Scholars Ensemble perform alongside soprano Dorothea Röschmann as Dido and bass-baritone Frederick Long as Aeneas, in a programme that explores the enduring emotional force of Purcell’s music through a distinctly modern lens.
This project carries on the relationship between O/Modernt and the VOCES8 Foundation.
The performances take place at Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie on 7 September and Merano’s Kurhaus on 9 September.
