Following global open-calls in May 2023 and rigorous live auditions in September, Lyyra was created by The VOCES8 Foundation to build support and visibility for upper voices and their potential, and extend its global mission to deliver world-beating concert experiences alongside integrated learning and participation work.

Lyyra looks set to reach a glittering place in choral music’s constellation – the only professional six-voice women’s a cappella group in the US, the group’s sound combines velvety richness alongside starlike brilliance. With a broad texture and exhilarating range of sound, the group’s members specialise in classical, jazz, pop, and folk music from diverse traditions and backgrounds.

Reflective of music, harmony and the night sky, Lyyra is named after the star system which represents Orpheus’ famed lyre; the group is formed of six exceptional women: MaryRuth Miller, Anna Crumley, Shabnam Abedi, Elizabeth Tait, Aryssa Leigh Burrs and Deborah Stephens.

The group will give its debut performance and the world premiere of ‘More Love’ at a concert on 16 February 2024 at St Luke’s United Methodist Church in Houston.

The EP, due to release on 10 May 2024, will feature arrangements by Lyyra’s own members, alongside a world premiere of title track ‘More Love’, written for the group by composer Taylor Scott Davis.
