Roderick Williams’s new choral work Never weather-beaten sail received its world premiere at the BBC Proms on 25 July at The Glasshouse in Gateshead. Commissioned by the BBC, the setting of Thomas Campion’s celebrated text was performed by the BBC Singers under the direction of Sofi Jeannin, as part of a special choral programme on The Glasshouse’s Concourse. Williams’s work sat alongside music spanning more than a thousand years, from Hildegard of Bingen to contemporary composers. The premiere concluded Roderick’s his tenure as Composer in Association with the BBC Singers, with the work dedicated to Sofi Jeannin.
