On March 10th, Mårten Jansson’s ‘Requiem Novum’ will have its Ukrainian premiere at the Central Evangelical Baptist Church ‘House of the Gospel’, Kyiv as part of Music Mission Kyiv. The Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will perform the Requiem alongside with Jansson’s most performed work the ‘Missa Popularis’.
Mårten writes: I believe that every composer most of all wants their music to be meaningful. This is why I’m so honoured that the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Choir have chosen to premiere my music during these dark times in Ukraine. That they are performing music at all during a time of war is truly heroic and gives a strong statement that they will not be pacified. The fact that my wife is Ukrainian makes this even more important to me and my family.
Viktoriia Konchakovska, Conductor and Creative Director of Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, says about Mårten’s music: ‘It feels like the music takes us to another dimension and everything bad is left behind.’
Update: he performance can be seen at the YouTube link below.
