Daniel Grimwood Makes a Triumphant Return to the Piano Rarities Series in Husum, Germany

Daniel Grimwood
Husum

“Daniel Grimwood presents a piano recital like a cleverly curated exhibition” – Frankfurter Allgemeine

“It’s the kind of performance that gets you invited back to Husum” wrote the Gramophone critic reviewing Grimwood’s performance of Liszt’s Grosses Konzertsolo from the recording release from the 2023 Piano Rarities Festival from Husum Germany on the Danacord label.

And he was right. Grimwood returned to Husum on 17th August 2025 and performed a carefully curated and researched programme. The first half connected the music of composers, teachers and performers linked to Munich and surprisingly, Boston.  Josepha von Fladt was the female teacher of Adolph von Henselt in Munich; Carl Baermann Junior, son of the famous clarinettist Carl Baermann studied in Munich and emigrated to Boston where he taught the highly influential composer and pianist, Amy Beach.

The second half offered the audience the chance to hear Widor’s Carnaval, a rarely performed and at times eccentric work, which absolutely delighted the audience. Grimwood will be releasing a complete Widor CD on Dancord, including Carnaval in late 2025. This was preceded by an exquisite performance of Au Bal by virtuoso pianist and composer Eduard Schütt.

Grimwood generously offered two encores for the audience – Moskowski’s transcription of Wagner’s Liebestod, and Notturno by Clara Schumann.
